It could be because we just moved into a new home or because I’ve got my own office (what!) but I’ve been struck by the design bug hard lately! Especially has the year comes to a close it’s time to start looking at next year’s trends – and getting ahead of the curve. I’ve rounded up my favorite 2016 decor trends that you’ll be seeing more of next year as well as some great sources to purchase from. I’m especially excited for many of these items because they’ve been staples in my home for quite some time now!
1. Bring the Outdoors In
In 2015 we saw a lot of plants like leafy palms and cacti take over our office spaces – and 2016 is no different. Our best advice to bring in the outdoors is by getting plants that require minimal care like cacti, air plants, and bamboo. All you need is sun and a little bit of water to keep these plants living! My number one favorite place to pick up air plants and cacti is Ikea! They’re incredibly affordable plus you can pick up a couple of cute planters while you’re there. I can’t wait to visit Ikea later this month to pick up lots of new cacti and air plants for both my home and office. It’s such an easy way to really spruce up a place. Plus, plants in your office has been linked to increased happiness and productivity. That’s a win for everyone!
2. Support Local Artisans
Artisans have seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to e-commerce sites like Etsy and we’re seeking a huge rise in their products. If you want to make your home extra cozy, look into buying a woven wall hanging or by crafting some clay mugs. There’s tons of tutorials online now that show you how to quickly whip up a wall hanging too.
2015 was all about bringing nature inside – and we’re not just talking about plants. Minerals had a big moment in 2015 and they’re not going anywhere soon. Grab a couple of great agate bookends to place in your home office or a couple of coasters to set your favorite coffee mug on. These simple and beautiful agate slices will brighten up your space!
4. Geometric Tiles
Tiles have undergone a huge makeover in the past year. We’re moving away from busy granite tiles and into cleaner, minimalist styles. Although you can’t redo your office floor into a beautiful geometric tile pattern, you can do simple DIY projects like a tile tray to keep all your personal objects on.
5. Mix Metals and Metallics
Mid-century design is a great way to decorate your home next year. Mid-century design is all about clean lines, soft colors, and adding a little splash of metals and metallics. Take a risk this year and snag a gold or copper lamp to brighten up your space and bring in some retro vibes. This marble and copper lamp from Target is definitely on my wish list for next year (here, here)!
Overall we saw a huge push for buying sustainable products and next year will be no different. These origami paper boxes are incredibly chic and made out of recycled paper. Plus since they hang on the wall, you’re saving precious table space! So next time you’re at the store, pick up some recycled notebooks and pens to work with – but make sure to recycle!
What big trends are you looking towards next year? I can’t believe that we’re only a few short weeks away from ending 2015 and beginning 2016! Let me know which of these are your favorites in the comments below!
