DIY Halloween Costume

Happy Halloween!! Halloween has to be one of my favorite holidays. Each year P and I try to come up with creative and fun Halloween costumes. Last year I dressed up with an inflatable doughnut and made him a Starbucks cup. Could you guess what we were?

Coffee and doughnuts!

So this year was going to be no exception! We are still at the drawing board but I had to share this adorable, and easy, retro pin up girl costume! I have always been fascinated with this part of our culture and love the femininity and empowerment of pin up girls.

Pin up girls to me were born out of an era that was excited and yet scared of what women can truly be. Now that we live in such an empowering society for women, it’s exciting to see how they were the forerunners in being able to express ourselves in such a powerful way.

In order to channel your own powerful retro pin up girl, you’ll only need a few things!

Supplies

Scallop off-shoulder dress  (It’s only $10!)
Vintage scarf and earrings
Sunglasses
Retro hairstyle and makeup

I really do love Halloween costumes that are simple and easy to make! Just simply slip into this stunning scallop off-shoulder dress and accessorize it with some fun vintage accessories. I have had this silk scarf and earrings for years but you can easily find something similar at your local thrift store.

As for your hairstyle and makeup, I wanted to make it as easy as possible. Just simply throw your hair into a high ponytail. If you’d like something more complicated, Pinterest has some great examples and inspirational posts! I already wear my make up in a retro fashion so it wasn’t hard to do it! I just made my cat eyeliner more exaggerated and wore my most fantastic orange lipstick, one of my favorite colors!

And just like that you’re done! This Halloween costume is so incredibly easy and quick to do that you can’t not wear it this year!

Wearing: Dress (Sheinside) // Shoes (Oka-B) // Scarf (Vintage)

If there’s one thing that I love about this dress is that I can wear it long after the holiday is over. I hate buying things for a costume only to never wear them again. I can’t wait to throw this dress on with tights and booties for a holiday party. Can you believe that holiday parties will be starting up soon?!

What are you being this year for Halloween? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
