Way back in April I had the great pleasure of attending The Big Fake Wedding here in Charleston! If you’re a soon to be bride and groom, this is an event not to miss! For one evening, newly engaged couples and their families can watch a live wedding ceremony take place. This is an excellent opportunity to see vendors in action and talk with them in the reception hall, receive some goodies, and perhaps walk away with an idea or two for their own wedding.
Now I may not be close to being engaged but I brought along a girlfriend that’s nearing her own engagement. As soon as you walked into the Haborside East Club you were greeted by the lovely team of The Big Fake Wedding, including Charleston’s own blogger, Top Knot Polka Dot. There you were handed a complimentary glass of champagne (yum!) and a goodie bag that included a program, information on The Big Fake Wedding, and the opportunity to speak briefly with vendors before sitting down for the ceremony.
We spoke at length with the creator behind Batch which specializes in custom gift boxes for guests. Inside the box you would find treats made from local food vendors here in Charleston. My personal favorite was the popcorn by Cornucopia. The best thing about the Batch boxes was that they aren’t limited to just weddings. You can use them for birthdays, holidays, or as a “hey, there” gift.
Obviously my favorite part was trying all the food! The food bar was gorgeously decorated with palm branches and tea light candles. Alongside the walls there were other food stations featuring meat dishes and of course, lots of cake! I loved the idea of an appetizer bar, it allows all the guests to try a little bit of everything. Even as a vegetarian, I felt like there was plenty to choose from and try. My favorite was the Peach Gazpacho, yum!
As everyone began coming outside to watch the quick five minute ceremony, you could either sit in the traditional row of chairs or choose from one of six tables decorated by a vendor. We choose to sit at one of the vendor tables. Each one was decorated by a particular theme, another great idea! I love the idea of the various theme tables because it gives the bride and groom an idea of how that theme would work for their own wedding. I personally loved the ones featuring plants and light colors.
I loved the details for this table and so did P when we looked through the pictures that night. How cute is a personal beer flight for each guest? Plus, look at all those terrariums!
The ceremony was brief and very beautiful. The Big Fake Wedding is an excellent chance to see a mini wedding all come together. If it stops in your city, I highly recommend all engaged couples and their families to go! Throughout the night they also had giveaways and prizes from the vendors that would considerably help out during the wedding process. One of the great giveaways was a bridal and engagement shoot from a local photographer.
