Happy Friday everyone! It’s another gorgeous day here in Charleston. I’m really loving these cooler mornings where it’s still ok to layer up a bit. I’m wearing one of my favorite pieces from Zara, it’s actually part of a two-piece set but I love how I can wear it together or separately. I went through a crazy leather phase last year and have all these great leather tops and skirts that I just tossed into the back of my closet until recently. Once I started hanging all my clothes on the copper wardrobe, I’ve been finding lots of gems that have been buried for a few months!
That’s definitely something I’ve started considering over the past few weeks. Which clothes are valuable to me and which are not. I talked about this briefly here about clothes bringing you joy. Now that P will be moving in soon (only 4 more weeks!) it’s time to get down to brass tacks and truly identify what can stay and what can go. So I’m challenging myself. In the next four weeks, I plan on reducing my closet by 1 item a week. Maybe even more than 1. But for now I want to start small. Do I really need 5 jackets? I live in Charleston so no, not really. But it doesn’t stop there. I’m putting myself on a clothes shopping hiatus too. If I’m purging my closet then my buying practices should stop too.
“But what about P’s stuff?”you may be asking. Well he’s got an awful amount of clothes too, many of which are old and ready to be retired. This isn’t a new topic for us, he knows it well enough that some items are ready to be retired like old t-shirts from college and free events. However, just because we’re purging doesn’t mean I’m going to demand he throw out all these t-shirts. I have plans to convert them into a rug for our home (tutorial to come!). That way they don’t contribute to the world’s alarming garbage issue but we’re also finding new ways to treasure old items and convert them into something new.
I think this will be a great practice and a personal challenge to find new ways to style my wardrobe and new uses for old items. What do you think of this challenge?
